He may have been a little hot under the collar - but that had everything to do with the temperature as it hovered around the mid- 500C mark, far different conditions to those at his normal Polar ice cap home base. Otherwise, it was just another day in the office for the old fella’ as he flew around the Pilbara dropping off gifts to the young folk at Parnngurr, Kunawarritji, Punmu, Warralong and Jigalong. Santa (with the assistance of Newcrest’s Martu Community Liaison officers Kevin Fred and Lindsay Hardcase) looked just the part as he paid lightning-fast visits to the communities as the school year drew to a close. Santa’s boss, Leon van Erp, organised pre-flight delivery of presents for the youngsters and youth, and healthy food for all members of the communities to celebrate the festive season. Right: Christmas cheers at Kunawarritji for the visitor from very-afar. Left: Leon van Erp and Punmu’s RAWA School Principal, James Back with Santa.
