NEWCREST DEVELOPMENT/ EDUCATIONSCHOLARSHIPS

for Karriyarra, Njamal, Ngarla, and Warrarn-Birrimaya Language Group members

As an integral component of its Community Policy and initiatives, Newcrest is committed to providing Development / Education Scholarship funding to assist members of the Karriyarra, Njamal, Ngarla, and Warrarn-Birrimaya Language Groups who lack opportunities to develop their potential. The Newcrest Development / Education Scholarships offer financial and personal support to encourage and enable successful applicants to further their skills and education. The Scholarships support some travel and living-away-from-home expenses, and costs associated with education fees, uniforms and equipment. Scholarships are awarded to assist local community members to further their study and/or improve their sporting abilities and opportunities. Scholarships are available for tertiary or specialised secondary education, and agricultural requirements, and sporting pursuits that are not otherwise available in the applicant’s community or nearest regional town. Further information and application forms are available from Newcrest’s Community Relations Superintendent, Leon van Erp, telephone 0409 080 228.

Warren and Daniel’s fellow “Old Boys” are also enriching their work experiences and skill levels around the mine site: Steve Dershow is behind the wheel of a Cat793C; Lloyd Williams (above, right) works in the Engineering Maintenance Store; while Augustine Biddell (below) and Adrian Bullen are driving a variety of vehicles around the site. “We are very proud of these fellows for what they have achieved,” said Community Relations Superintendent Leon van Erp. “They bring credit to themselves, they set an excellent example to others seeking full-time employment, and they are equipping themselves to lead a productive and, hopefully, very happy life.”
