The six “Old Boys on the block” are hard at work - and enjoying the challenges confronting them.

Telfer’s enduring Indigenous employees - Daniel Toby, Steve Dershow, Warren Nardi, Augustine Biddell, Adrian Bullen and Lloyd Williams - have all advanced their careers having secured employment at the gold mine early last year. Quietly and without fuss they have listened, learnt, carried out their tasks diligently and accepted opportunities to tackle new challenges around the mine site to broaden their experiences and competencies. Daniel Toby (below, and left) has left the cabin of a huge 240-tonne load capacity heavy rig Cat793C to take control of a massive water cart, continuously dampening down the red dirt roads throughout the Open Pit.

Warren Nardi (below), who began his life on site driving a skid-steer loader, is now an assistant in the Gold Room, the iconic heart of a gold mine where gold ingots are forged. “I am very happy,” said Warren, his face beaming. “The people here are very helpful and happy for me to learn more and more. This is a lot of fun and I want to be here for a long time. “With my earnings I am able to help my family, and I am also saving up to buy a new car.”
